- 1 cup roasted Rice flour
- 1/3 cup - 1/2 cup grated jaggery
- as required Hot water
- to taste Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1 cup grated coconut
- as required Banana leaves
Instructions to make to make Ela Ada / Vazhayila Ada
- In a bowl, add rice flour and salt. mix well. Gradually add hot water and mix with spoon.Do not add in all water at once. Let it rest for some time
- Knead into smooth chapati like dough. Keep it aside
- Mix coconut jaggery,cardamom powder in a bowl with hands until well combined and soft
- Clean the banana leaves and heat it slightly on both sides directly over the flame so that leaves do not break while folding
- Spread 1/2 tsp of coconut oil all over the leaf with the fingers.
- Place lemon size dough in the center of the leaf, flatten it with wet fingers like small roti and spread the filling on it.
- Gently fold the leaf in half. Tuck the ends of the leaf.
- Place the adas in a steamer/idly cooker and steam it for 8- 10 minutes over high heat
- Remove the adas from the steamer. Serve warm
